First
Nations Training & Consulting Services has been in operation
since February 1993 and is 100% owned and operated by a First
Nations woman. We provide seminars and services to First Nations
people across Canada. The staff has a wealth of experience
and training, directly related to First Nations communities.
First Nations Training & Consulting Services commenced
in February 1993 as a small home based business, which was
then called First Nations Education Services. Since then,
First Nations Training & Consulting Services has expanded
its services and seminars to meet the demand that exists in
our communities throughout Canada.
On September 1, 1994, we were officially registered with the
Private Post-Secondary Education Commission of British Columbia
giving us private post-secondary institution status. We now
provide services and seminars that include all areas of First
Nations government and in January 1997 we changed our name
to First Nations Training & Consulting Services to reflect
that expansion.
We believe in providing lifelong training, from birth to elders,
that is relevant and culturally based. By developing and offering
training for day care and head start staff, we can ensure
that our children from birth are receiving the best care that
they possibly can. To ensure that children receive quality
education throughout elementary and secondary school, we provide
training to all staff and School Boards. Since many of our
communities have a high population of youth, we provide Youth
Empowerment Seminars which assist youth in not only dealing
with their issues, but in learning how to move beyond their
issues. We have developed very successful programs for many
of our adults who are just starting to deal with their issues
and are returning to school or seeking full-time employment.
Many of the staff in our communities have limited opportunity
to upgrade their skills; therefore, we design, develop and
deliver training which meets their needs. This training can
be offered either on-site or off-site. In order for our leaders
to make effective decisions, we also provide Seminars to all
Boards/Authorities such as Education, Health, Economic Development,
Housing, Friendship Centers, Treatment Centers, Aboriginal
Health Councils and Day Care, Headstart Councils as well as
for Chief and Council.
We believe it is critical for our staff and leaders to have
an opportunity to deal with their own issues in order to be
effective in their roles. Therefore, we offer workshops and
programs dealing with abuse, addictions, family violence and
suicide. As our communities gain more jurisdiction over their
affairs, we respond by developing more training programs to
meet their needs. Each year we develop new Seminars based
on these developments. Call our office to see what new developments
are taking place this year or if you require specific training
brought into your community.
