Her
focus in education has been on "Indian Control of Indian
Education". She has assisted Bands in BC and Alberta
in taking complete control of all of their education (pre-school
to post-secondary). Her teaching and administrative experience
at a local community college gave her the expertise in designing,
developing and implementing post-secondary courses and programs.
Edith has designed, developed and
delivered relevant programs in areas such as pre-school/day-care
(immersion and regular). She has worked extensively in setting
up Head Start Programs all across Canada from the start
to the actual operation of the programs. Over the past few
years, she has been helping Bands implement Head Start programs
to make the transition to schools more effective.
She has also developed programs for youth (life skills,
alternative, job readiness) and for adults (life skills,
pre-employment training, teaching assistant, aboriginal
language teacher training). Her ability to write proposals
and secure funds has made those programs extremely successful.
Her
greatest joy and challenge has been in owning and operating
her own business for the past 11 years, First Nations Training
& Consulting Services, which provides training and consulting
services to First Nations People in BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan,
Manitoba, Ontario, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Quebec,
and the Atlantic Provinces.
